They are very easy to install and use. These keypad deadbolts work differently than a lot of the competitor's keypad deadbolts. The Schlage does not move the bolt automatically, it just engages the handle when an authorized code is entered and you do the work to move the bolt. Is that better? In a word, yes. We have used other brands that move the bolt automatically and there are disadvantages to these units. They are slow and on a very cold night you may find weak batteries will leave YOU out in the cold. We installed our first unit in our home over 3 years ago and used the included 9-volt battery (not expecting it to last too long) and it is still going strong. A month ago I had noticed the lock was indicating that it needed a new battery but I forgot about it and we left for vacation. Upon returning we discovered we were locked out of the house. No big deal I'll just enter the code on the front door but of course the battery was dead and we had no keys to the house. Time to call a locksmith; the locksmith said that at most it would take 20 minutes to pick the lock. After 45 minutes of trying he gave up and said that this is some sort of industrial grade lock with a ton of tumblers and picking wasn't going to work. He then began to drill the lock out after 60 minutes and 6 titanium drill bits and hammering on the lock he was able to get the lock off.
